Rickie Announces: The Agape International Choir - LIVE IN CONCERT!
Local Multi-Cultural Agape International Choir to Raise the Roof at Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center
“21 Years of Rhythm and Joy”
Friday, Nov. 13
CULVER CITY, CA – The multi-ethnic Agape International Choir and Agape House Band, under the direction of prolific composer and song stylist Dr. Rickie Byars Beckwith, has traveled the world from South Africa to Maui, and performed in places as diverse as the United Nations in New York and a skid row homeless shelter in Los Angeles. Heralded as the heart of the Music and Arts Ministry of the trans-denominational Culver City-based Agape International Spiritual Center, a spiritual community known for its rich cultural diversity, local and global humanitarian programs, and promotion of the arts, the 160-voice Agape International Choir celebrates its 21st anniversary with a full-length concert, “21 Years of Rhythm and Joy,” at Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. The Center is located at 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Redondo Beach, CA 90278.
Representing the face of racial harmony and right relations in Los Angeles and beyond since its inception in 1988, the Agape Choir has set the standard for musically spreading the word that there is unity in diversity, and inherent harmony in global community. True to the compelling vision of ‘a world that works for everyone’ as espoused and practiced by the Agape Movement and its founder and spiritual director, Rev. Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, the choir brings to music lovers in the South Bay area all the élan, enthusiasm, fervor and festivity it has exhibited in performances at the World Festival of Sacred Music, Dodger Stadium, the opening and closing ceremonies of the Democratic National Convention, the CNN Hero Awards, the NAACP Image Awards, and President Barack Obama’s People’s Inaugural Ball.
“Rhythm and Joy” includes not only upbeat, rhythmic renditions of original compositions, congregational and contemporary chants and traditional sacred songs of celebration written by Rickie and Michael Beckwith, but also a medley down memory lane with current and veteran Agape House Band members including multi-platinum song writer and guitarist Al McKay, percussionist Indugo Chancler, saxophone player extraordinaire Cal Bennett, and Yanni-featured soloist, Ming Freeman among others. Exquisite stage and costume design, video montage, and special guest performers are all part of the musical mix.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m, VIP reception at 7 p.m, curtain at 8 p.m. Get your tickets here!
